Ciryl Gane doesn’t buy the idea that UFC heavyweight is in a down period.
Gane, who was elevated to undisputed champion, defends the title against Josh Hokit at UFC 334 at Madison Square Garden on Nov. 14. The division has taken heat lately, with many fans calling the current roster one of the weakest ever.
In a recent UFC video, Gane argued the opposite.
The top 10 is incredible. I heard a lot of people talking about how the division is poor. I think the heavyweight division actually may be the best moment of the heavyweight division’s history.
That’s a bold claim for a division once ruled by Stipe Miocic, Cain Velasquez, Randy Couture and Fabricio Werdum. Fans weren’t convinced. “Talent is there, but ‘best heavyweight division ever’ is a big claim,” one wrote. Another said, “I guess he didn’t watch the UFC back then.”
Hokit, for his part, has been busy talking about a future drop to middleweight. He has also claimed Gane hides behind his athleticism.
