Despite the way everything played out in their UFC 329 main event, Conor McGregor appears to not be done with Max Holloway.
McGregor took to the press conference table following BKFC 96, and he was asked about what he plans for his MMA return. McGregor says there is only one man on his mind: Holloway.
McGregor is hoping to erase the sting of their fight from this past July, which McGregor lost in just over a minute after injuring his leg.
“It has to be Holloway,” McGregor said. “The guy didn’t engage once. He’s the one that called for the stoppage…I’d have done him on the one leg.”
The fight at UFC 329 marked McGregor’s first fight since UFC 264, almost exactly five years earlier, where he broke his other leg in a trilogy bout with Dustin Poirier.
A rematch with Holloway would mark another trilogy; McGregor defeated Holloway in a featherweight bout in 2013, when the two competed on the prelims of the first UFC card on Fox Sports 1.
McGregor said that the nature of his injury is similar to the injury he suffered in the first Holloway fight, which would allow him to start training again pre-summer.
It is unknown when the next McGregor fight will happen, but it would mark the last fight on McGregor’s UFC contract.
Whoever is the next opponent, and despite not having scored a win since defeating Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in January 2020, McGregor says he only wants to fight top-tier talent.
“Holloway might be a jack***, something might happen, I don’t know,” McGregor said. “But a fighter that fights me, put some respect on my name. If you’re not a world champion fighter, don’t even utter my f****** name.”
