Conor McGregor has dusted off his “Mystic Mac” crystal ball ahead of UFC 330, and this time he is predicting a stunning upset for Ian Machado Garry.
Garry challenges Islam Makhachev for the welterweight championship in Saturday’s UFC 330 main event in Philadelphia, with the champion also chasing the UFC’s all-time consecutive win record. McGregor, however, believes his fellow Irishman has the tools to derail Makhachev’s pursuit of history.
‘The Notorious’ has an interesting connection to both fighters. He has previously sparred with Garry at SBG Ireland and has supported his rise, while Makhachev was once linked to a potential boxing matchup with the former UFC champion. McGregor also remains connected to Makhachev through his longstanding rivalry with Khabib Nurmagomedov.
For UFC 330, McGregor is firmly siding with “The Future”.
“Let’s go, Garry. You know it. He has the tools,” McGregor said. “He’s been doing great work at SBG. He’s been putting in some solid rounds. I’ve been hearing about the rounds and what the structure was. He’s long. He’s definitely going to stay safe.”
McGregor also questioned whether Makhachev has completely settled into the welterweight division.
“Makhachev has pockets where there’s a lot of stalling. He still has things to prove in that welterweight division. He does look like he has to grow into it a bit more,” he said.
Then came the prediction.
“Of course, I’m going with Ian Garry. I really think he can do it,” McGregor said. “How do I see it? Right high kick across the crown of the head and a victory for the Irish Brazilian. Let’s go, Ian. Rooting for you, bro. Great scrap, yeah?”
The prediction is particularly intriguing because Garry’s most recent knockout victory came against Daniel Rodriguez at UFC Charlotte in May 2023, when he stopped him with a head kick in the first round.
