Dana White says there is no confusion about his role in Anthony Joshua vs. Tyson Fury.
Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, has said their contract bars White and Zuffa Boxing from promoting the fight. However, the Netflix press release announcing the December 11 bout at Principality Stadium in Cardiff named White as a promoter, along with Turki Alalshikh and The Ring.
White spoke to MMA Junkie and other reporters after Tuesday’s Dana White’s Contender Series in Las Vegas. He shut down talk that his involvement had put the fight at risk.
There’s no confusion whatsoever. I mean, if you look at everything from the network to the guy who’s actually f—-ing paying for it and to me saying what I’ve said. I’ve been saying it now it feels like for f—-ing years, but it’s probably been weeks, but I’ve been saying the same thing. It’s happening, it’s done. It’s a done deal.
Everything that I’ve been saying is the truth. Why would I say it and double down and triple down and f—-ing quadruple down if it wasn’t the case?
Asked why there was any hesitation about him being involved, White pointed at Hearn.
This isn’t a hesitation; this is an ego thing. Total ego thing. It has nothing to do with any of this s—.
He also took a shot at boxing’s current standing in the United States.
Boxing has taken a hit in the United States. It’s not as big as it was here 20 years ago. It has become a very British sport, and all the s— that you’re hearing, the crying and the b—-ing and whatever the f—, is coming from the U.K. I’m having fun, man. This is right up my alley.
White will not be at Wednesday’s press conference in London. He said he would have attended if not for the Contender Series.
Chael Sonnen said this week that the White vs. Hearn feud is drawing more interest in North America than the fight itself.
