Alexander Volkanovski says Max Holloway can “zap the life out of” Conor McGregor at UFC 329 if he navigates the early danger — and believes a finish is a live possibility once McGregor’s initial burst fades.
Volkanovski spoke ahead of the July 11 rematch at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
The thing with Max is he’s so good at breaking people down. If Max can make it through the early exchanges — Conor’s going to be dangerous early — but Max has this ability to just zap the life out of you, just break you down round by round.
Volkanovski, who has beaten Holloway in two featherweight title fights, believes Holloway’s activity and volume become overwhelming if McGregor cannot land something significant in the opening rounds.
I think the longer the fight goes, the better for Max. Conor’s going to come out hot but if he doesn’t get the finish, which I don’t think he will, then Max starts to take over. I think Max can finish this fight.
Holloway enters on the back of the BMF title-winning knockout of Justin Gaethje, while McGregor is making his first UFC appearance since his 2021 leg break against Dustin Poirier.
