Allen Vs. Duncan Puts Middleweight Rankings On The Line

Brendan Allen and Christian Leroy Duncan meet in a five-round middleweight main event at UFC Fight Night on Saturday, October 10, at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas. Prelims start at 5 p.m. ET, the main card follows at 8 p.m. ET, and the full event streams on Paramount+ in the United States.

What’s at stake

Allen is ranked fourth at middleweight and Duncan is tenth, and the fight is Duncan’s first UFC main event. In UFC.com’s fight-by-fight preview, E. Spencer Kyte wrote that a win would put Duncan in the title conversation. Kyte also noted that Allen is fighting lower in the rankings for the second time this year, which he read as a fighter who cares more about staying active than protecting his spot.

Both men are on runs, Allen with three straight wins and Duncan with five. UFC announced the booking on September 1.

The case for each fighter

Allen (27-7), 30, is a grappler by résumé. Fourteen of his 27 wins came by submission and six by knockout, and 11 of them ended in the first round. He has won 10 of his last 12, with the only losses in that stretch coming by decision to Nassourdine Imavov and Anthony Hernandez. The streak includes a decision over Marvin Vettori, a corner stoppage of Reinier de Ridder and a Fight of the Night decision over Edmen Shahbazyan in June.

Duncan (15-2), 31, has won five straight since a decision loss to Gregory Rodrigues in July 2024. The run includes a first-round stoppage of Eryk Anders, a second-round knockout of Marco Tulio, and unanimous decisions over Roman Dolidze in March and Jared Cannonier at UFC Oklahoma City in July, the two wins Kyte credits with lifting him into the top 10. Ten of his 15 wins are knockouts. He has a four-inch reach edge, 79 inches to 75, according to UFC.com.

The stylistic question is where the fight lives. More than half of Allen’s wins came by submission, but Duncan defends 58% of takedowns, the same rate as Allen. Kyte wrote that the early grappling exchanges should dictate the fight, and that it could turn into a kickboxing match because Allen is willing to trade.

The rest of the main card

Matheus Camilo (11-3) meets Jai Herbert in the lightweight co-main event, with Camilo coming off a first-round stoppage of Nazim Sadykhov. Loopy Godinez, ranked eighth at strawweight, faces Ketlen Souza, who has won two straight. Malcolm Wellmaker and Otari Tanzilovi are both 10-2 at bantamweight, and Andre Fili meets Kai Kamaka III at featherweight.
