Jessie Rosas Out Of His Debut At UFC Vegas 120 As Former UFC Fighter Gets Surprise Second Short-Notice Opportunity

A late shake-up has hit this weekend’s UFC Vegas 120 card, with a promotional newcomer getting an unexpected second chance inside the Octagon.

According to MMA journalist Marcel Dorff, Jessie Rosas has been removed from Saturday’s event, and former UFC fighter Gianni Vazquez will now step in on short notice to face veteran Miles Johns in a featherweight bout.

Rosas, the older brother of UFC bantamweight contender Raul Rosas Jr., was set to make his promotional debut after compiling an 8-1 professional record on the regional circuit. The 23-year-old earned his UFC opportunity following successful runs in promotions including UWC, A1 Combat, Fury FC, and 559 Fights, with six of his eight victories coming by stoppage.

Instead, the opportunity now falls to Vazquez, who receives an unexpected return to the promotion just months after being released from the roster.

The Mexican fighter holds a 14-5-1 professional record and made his UFC debut at UFC Vegas 113 in February, stepping in on just two days’ notice to face Javid Basharat. Vazquez lost a unanimous decision after competing at a 141-pound catchweight following a difficult weight cut and was subsequently released by the promotion.

Now, “Kriptonita” gets a second opportunity to prove he belongs in the UFC as he accepts another short-notice assignment.

Meanwhile, Johns, who enters the bout looking to halt the first three-fight losing streak of his UFC career. The 32-year-old veteran owns a 15-5 record and has dropped consecutive contests to Felipe Lima, Jean Matsumoto, and Daniel Marcos.
