Dana White has seen a lot of stars come through the UFC. He doesn’t think he’ll ever see another Conor McGregor.
The UFC CEO called McGregor a one-of-one, a fighter whose fame and business impact simply can’t be replicated. Inside the octagon, McGregor became the promotion’s first simultaneous two-division champion. Outside it, he delivered record live gates and the best-selling pay-per-views in company history.
Speaking on The Pivot podcast, White said the question follows him everywhere and the answer never changes.
[Revolutionary] in the sports world, not just in the UFC. I look at a guy like him like a unicorn. People always ask me, ‘Who’s the next Conor McGregor?’ There’s never going to be another Conor McGregor.
To White, it wasn’t just the talent. It was timing.
In the time, in the place and the way he came into the sport, there will be a different superstar but there will never be another Conor.
The comments land as McGregor faces another long layoff. His return after five years away drew monster numbers for Paramount+ and broke the UFC’s all-time gate record, but the fight itself lasted 69 seconds before his knee gave out against Max Holloway. He’s since confirmed an ACL and meniscus tear and is targeting a return by next summer.
