Perhaps the standout women’s fighter on this season’s show, Tina Black can call herself The Ultimate Fighter, defeating Team Cormier teammate Melissa Amaya at UFC Vegas 121 for the season 34 women’s strawweight title.
“I put in my mind to be here to leave with this trophy for my house, for my family to be proud…I’m so happy,” Black said. “Everybody prepare for me!”
Amaya had a forward approach during the opening round, looking to use pressure and her hands to find a way inside. Late in the frame, a quick right hook from Black dropped Amaya, and Black jumped on the attack. Despite Amaya getting back up, Black continued to pursue and tag her. The two then tagged one another right before the horn.
Amaya looked to find a way back into the fight in round two, coming back forward once again with her strikes. Black wobbled Amaya with another right hand three minutes into the frame, however. A few follow-up shots put Amaya to the mat and gave Black the TUF 34 title.
Black is a 2021 alumna of Dana White’s Contender Series and a former champion of Invicta FC and A1 Combat. Black defeated Natalia Alves and Delphine Benouaich to reach tonight’s final.
