Conor McGregor Reveals Extent Of His Knee Injury

ByAndrew RavensMixed Martial Arts Journalist

Conor McGregor has put a name to the damage, and he’s already talking about coming back.

A day after Dana White confirmed McGregor tore his ACL at UFC 329, the former two-division champion filled in the rest on social media. He said the injury is an ACL and meniscus tear, and that it’s the same one he suffered in his left knee during his first fight with Max Holloway back in August 2013, only this time on the opposite leg.

Update: It was acl and meniscus. It is the same injury as the first Holloway fight, only this time the opposite leg. Quite shocking. I returned to competition within 9 months to fight Diego Brandao back then.

McGregor hurt the right knee 69 seconds into UFC 329, landing awkwardly on a kick attempt to open the first round in his first fight in five years, a card that drew a record gate at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Rather than dwell on the setback, he leaned on that 2013 comeback as a blueprint and set an aggressive timeline.

With today’s regenerative medicine advancements and improved training methods it is well within my realm to return by next summer.

He added that he’s already walking without a crutch and did leg extensions on a machine “to no issue.” That target would actually beat his original plan, as he’d been hoping to fight in April 2027 for the final bout of his current UFC contract.
