Dan Hooker has a short verdict on the BMF title.
Charles Oliveira won the belt from Max Holloway at UFC 326 in March with a cautious performance that drew plenty of criticism and earned him a unanimous decision. He’ll defend it against Diego Lopes in the UFC 335 main event on Dec. 12 in Las Vegas.
The title was meant for fighters who never turn down an exciting fight, following Jorge Masvidal, Justin Gaethje and Holloway. Many fans felt Oliveira’s win didn’t fit that idea.
Hooker, known for his own wild fights, agreed when Submission Radio suggested the belt has become “stupid.”
Well, it was cool for a bit and then [Oliveira] kind of made it not cool… I think he killed it.
Asked whether the belt could be brought back to life, Hooker gave a one-word answer: “No.”
