Despite an early scare from Jose Delgado, Jean Silva added another finish to his resume, scoring the win in the Noche UFC 4 main event.
Delgado tried to use feinting as he worked out his distance and tried to feel out Silva, though Silva didn’t bite on the feints. As everyone waited for Silva to explode, Delgado suddenly landed a three-punch combination, dropping Silva as Delgado pressed him into the fence.
Peppering in some leg kicks, Delgado looked to get inside but was body locked by Silva, and the two briefly battled against the fence. Delgado landed a high kick and a right hand before the round’s end, while Silva landed one strong shot of his own.
Delgado landed a couple more short, quick shots before adding in a couple of notable right hands. Silva scored a takedown halfway through the round and landed the bigger strikes, but Delgado still produced volume.
By the start of the third, Delgado lost his range on Silva, and Silva was coming forward and making himself hard to hit. Silva rocked Delgado with a right hand and brought the fight to the mat, quickly locking up a rear-naked choke for the submission win.
Silva is now 7-1 in the UFC, entering this fight ranked No. 6 at featherweight and coming in off a decision win over Arnold Allen at UFC 324.
