Don’t write the demise of Brandon Moreno just yet, as the former flyweight champion earned a victory over Joseph Morales in the co-main event of Noche UFC 4.
Morales looked to come out strong, working the body while exchanging with Morales. Moreno landed a left hand that rocked Morales as the two continued to exchange in close. Morales answered with a body lock and knee, eventually landing a big takedown. Moreno got back up, but Morales started to land bigger shots from there.
Moreno tried to push the pace more in the second round, landing multiple shots upstairs. He looked to stand his ground, too, and it appeared to give Morales difficulty as he looked for an opening for a takedown.
Morales looked for body locks in the third round, trying to set up takedowns, but Moreno consistently thwarted the attempts — even reversing and scoring a takedown during the frame. That defense and top position, combined with Moreno’s striking success, helped earn him the decision win.
Moreno is now 3-3 in his last six and rebounds from a pair of losses to Tatsuro Taira and Lone’er Kavanagh.
