Sean Strickland says a middleweight title rematch with Nassourdine Imavov is close, with pay talks the last detail standing in the way of an announcement.
The UFC champion wrote on X on Sunday that the two sides are still negotiating.
“We’re discussing pay now,” Strickland wrote. “Once that detail is squared its locked in.” He added, “We’re almost there,” and took a shot at his opponent: “The issue is no one cares about the fake Frenchman.”
The UFC has not announced the fight, and Strickland did not name a date. Reports have linked the matchup to the promotion’s December numbered event in Las Vegas, which does not yet have a headliner.
Imavov’s most recent loss came against Strickland in 2023. He has won five straight since, including victories over Caio Borralho and Israel Adesanya in UFC Fight Night main events.
Strickland recently addressed a UTV rollover in Las Vegas, saying he was banged up but doing fine.
