Anthony Joshua has made it clear that his loyalty to Eddie Hearn could have major consequences for his long-awaited showdown with Tyson Fury.
The heavyweight blockbuster is scheduled for December 11 at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, but the ongoing dispute between Hearn and Dana White has created another layer of uncertainty around the event.
Anthony Joshua Backs Eddie Hearn In Dana White Dispute
White has repeatedly claimed that he will have a major promotional role in Fury vs. Joshua, while Hearn has disputed his involvement and maintained that existing agreements prevent White from being part of the event.
Joshua has now revealed that he would be prepared to walk away from the biggest fight of his career if Hearn decides to pull the plug.
My loyalty’s with Eddie, so whatever he wants to do, if he wants to pull the plug, I’ll be right there tugging that plug with him,” Joshua told talkSPORT Boxing.
White was notably absent from Wednesday’s London press conference, although his name still drew loud boos from the crowd when Turki Alalshikh mentioned him.
Despite the controversy, Joshua emphasized that the Fury fight has already survived several major hurdles, including negotiations over the UK venue and VADA testing.
Obviously, the agenda was to make this fight happen by any means,” Joshua said, before adding that those sticking points were never going to stop the bout from happening.
It has to happen. There’s no better time than now. What else would I have done? Who else would I have fought?
Fury and Joshua are finally set to settle their long-running rivalry after years of failed negotiations and speculation. However, with White’s role still being disputed, Joshua’s latest comments add another intriguing wrinkle to the build-up.
