Sean O'Malley's Case for Next UFC Bantamweight Title Shot

Sean O'Malley made his case for a bantamweight title shot after UFC 333 by pointing to his wins over champion Petr Yan and rising contender Song Yadong.

Sean O’Malley wants everyone to remember who he has beaten.

Petr Yan defended the bantamweight title against Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 333 on Saturday, settling their trilogy. Song Yadong, who knocked out Umar Nurmagomedov in August, has emerged as a possible next challenger.

O’Malley has wins over both. He posted on Instagram photos of his victories over Song and Yan, then shared a video of himself running through a hail storm.

Petr Yan, while you’re out there celebrating your victory I’m out here training.

O’Malley beat Yan by split decision in 2022, a result many fans still dispute. He beat Song earlier this year, then knocked out Aiemann Zahabi on the UFC White House card in June. Those wins came after back-to-back title losses to Dvalishvili.

Yan has already said he is open to the rematch. Before UFC 333, he told MMA Fighting “we have history,” though he added that the UFC picks his opponents.
