Eddie Hearn says UFC boss Dana White will have no part in Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua, even though Netflix’s official announcement says White will help promote it.
Hearn made the case in an interview with iFL TV that was shared on X by EverythingBoxing. BoxingWire has the full breakdown of his comments.
“The f**kery involved in this fight, and we’ll come onto the fact that even Netflix put out a press release [saying] ‘the fight will be in conjunction with Dana White.’ There’s loads of battles to come on that because that ain’t happening either,” Hearn said.
The release confirmed the fight for Friday, December 11 at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, live on Netflix. It says Turki Alalshikh’s The Ring and White will collaborate to promote the event, and it carries a quote from White. That gave White a public role in the fight after a month of back and forth with Hearn.
Hearn has held his position for weeks. He told ESPN in June that Joshua’s contract bars White, TKO and Zuffa from any promotional involvement. Asked at a media scrum in Dublin in early September whether the revised deal would allow White a role, he said no, and that otherwise there would be no fight.
White has said the opposite. Asked by iFL TV earlier this month who is promoting the fight, he answered, “It’ll be me.”
No clarification from Sela or The Ring on the promoter discrepancy was publicly available at the time of writing. Joshua, meanwhile, responded with a cryptic message without naming Fury. A press conference for the fight is scheduled for September 30, and the undercard is still open, with Zuffa Boxing signee Shakur Stevenson reportedly in talks to face Manny Pacquiao on the show.
