Mickey Gall is out of his UFC Vegas 121 bout against Sedriques Dumas due to a medical issue, the UFC announced Thursday. Stepping in on short notice is Luis Hernandez, who just punched his ticket to the promotion via Dana White’s Contender Series.
Hernandez earned his contract with a second-round submission win on Episode 6 earlier this month and will now make his UFC debut against Dumas. The change also shifts the matchup out of middleweight, with the new pairing set to compete at light heavyweight.
UFC Fight Night: Rosas Jr. vs. Barcelos takes place Saturday at Meta APEX in Las Vegas, with prelims starting at 5 p.m. ET on Paramount+ ahead of the 8 p.m. ET main card.
Hernandez Steps In Unbeaten
Hernandez enters the promotion with a perfect record after submitting Hugo Guillon by rear-naked choke in the second round of his Contender Series appearance. The finish gave Dana White enough to award a contract on the spot.
Gall’s withdrawal continues a difficult stretch for the veteran, who was already returning to the Octagon after an extended layoff. Dumas, meanwhile, gets a new opponent and a new weight class just days out from fight week.
The card is headlined by Raul Rosas Jr.’s first UFC main event, a bantamweight clash against veteran Raoni Barcelos.
