Raul Rosas Jr. headlines his first UFC main event this Saturday against a fighter with a specific résumé. Raoni Barcelos already ended the hype run of the last elite young bantamweight who stood across from him.
Rosas Jr. (12-1, 6-1 UFC) meets Barcelos (22-5) at UFC Vegas 121 on Sept. 26 at Meta APEX in Las Vegas, streaming on Paramount+. Both men enter on five-fight winning streaks, and neither has ever headlined a UFC card before.
Rosas Jr. became the youngest fighter to ever sign a UFC contract when he earned his deal off Dana White’s Contender Series in 2022, a month before turning 18. He backed it up by submitting Jay Perrin in his debut, the youngest win in promotion history.
A decision loss to Christian Rodriguez remains his only defeat. He has rebuilt with five straight wins, most recently a dominant decision over Rob Font at UFC 326 that included 16 takedowns.
Barcelos is 18 years older and has fought in the UFC since 2018. He won his first five bouts with the promotion, then dropped four of his next five, before rebuilding into the fighter now on a five-fight streak over Cristian Quiñonez, Payton Talbott, former bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt, Ricky Simon and Montel Jackson.
The Talbott win is the one that matters most for Rosas Jr.’s story. Talbott entered that fight as one of the division’s most hyped rising fighters, the same role Rosas Jr. occupies now, and Barcelos beat him by unanimous decision.
A Lopsided Line On A Closer Fight
Sportsbooks have made Rosas Jr. a significant favorite, with early lines pricing him around -210 to Barcelos’ +177. The gap reflects Rosas Jr.’s age, momentum and a wrestling-heavy style that has produced six of his 12 wins by submission.
Barcelos’ own tape argues otherwise. In his last fight, Montel Jackson dropped him with a high kick and nearly finished him on the mat in the first round, before Barcelos rallied to nearly submit Jackson and escape with a split decision. His wins over Garbrandt and Simon were built the same way, on volume striking and clinch control across three full rounds rather than one clean finish.
What’s On The Line
When the UFC announced the pairing in August, Rosas Jr. sat at No. 12 in the promotion’s media rankings and Barcelos at No. 13, putting a spot inside the top 15 directly on the line. A win pushes either man closer to the division’s ranked contenders. For Barcelos, at 39 and years removed from a stretch in which he lost four of five, a loss in his first main event carries more weight than it would for a fighter half his age.
The card also features Montel Jackson against Ricky Simon, the two most recent men Barcelos beat to get here, along with the bantamweight and women’s strawweight finals of The Ultimate Fighter: Team Cormier vs. Team Bisping.
